Press Release – 75th EAAP Meeting in Florence, Italy https://eaap.org/press-release-75th-eaap-meeting-in-florence-italy/ Wed, 31 Jul 2024 13:28:38 +0000 https://eaap.org/?p=7646 The Association for Animal Science and Production (ASPA) and the European Federation of Animal Husbandry (EAAP) are pleased to welcome you to the 75th annual meeting of the European Association for Production Animals, which will be held in Florence from 1 to 5 September 2024.

Florence is one of the most important art cities in Italy. An exceptional wealth of monuments, historical sites, museums and churches that represent the cultural heritage and artistic heritage of Florence, considered the capital of the Renaissance.

Florence is the capital of Tuscany, a region located in the heart of Italy, and known around the world for its beautiful hilly agricultural landscapes, the best country houses of Chianti, its wines, olive oil, the largest native bovine breed “Chianina” and the Florentine steak. These products represent the Italian excellence of agriculture. During the EAAP congress, social events will be hosted in some of the most spectacular places in the city and will offer the opportunity to taste some of them directly these products.

The general theme of the congress is “Global quality: environment, animals, Food ‘. The congress will be divided into several parallel scientific sessions, in which research results covering the entire field of animal sciences will be presented and discussed, together with the presentation of the main ongoing research projects.

We received an incredibly large number of abstracts, a record for the annual conference: more than 1800 abstracts compared to around 1300 at previous EAAP annual meetings. These abstracts come from 60 different countries around the world! The number of participants is already close to 2000 people.

The title of the plenary session that will be organized on September 2nd August is: Reassessing our Relationship with Farmed Animals.

Italy has the largest number of PDO and PGI products.

Various technical tours will be organized to discover the breeding systems and biodiversity of the Mediterranean (Maremma beef cattle, Cinta Senese pigs, dairy buffalo farms), the Tuscan agricultural landscapes (Chianti hills, rural residences, cellars), the high-quality DOP productions. of Parmigiano Reggiano, Prosciutto di Parma and San Daniele, Tuscan Pecorino and Tuscan ham.

Herachievements exemplify the excellence and forwardthinking that this award celebrates. The award
will be conferred during the Welcome and Award Ceremony, which will take place early September at
the 75th EAAP Annual Meeting. As per the award’s criteria, recipients are early career researchers
not older than 38 years at the time of the annual meeting. We extend our warm congratulations to

This workshop will cover various crucial topics, including genetic diversity, mating behaviour, and the interplay of genetics and environment in farmed insects. The workshop will be held in Athens (Greece) at the Agricultural University of Athens on January 29th – 31st, 2025. Participants can look forward to detailed sessions on designing breeding objectives, phenotyping systems, and estimating breeding values. Additionally, smaller group training sessions will be available, focusing on breeding objectives, quantitative genetics, population simulations, and dissemination techniques. Our esteemed Scientific Committee includes experts such as Gertje Petersen, Christoph Sandrock, Laura Gasco, Sreten Andonov, and several other relevant scientists who are expert in insects farming. Preparing for the third EAAP Regional meeting in Krakow https://eaap.org/preparing-for-the-third-eaap-regional-meeting-in-krakow/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 08:30:49 +0000 https://eaap.org/?p=7539 Last week, the EAAP Secretary General met with Prof. Joanna Makulska and Prof. Zygmunt Kowalski of the Agricultural University of Kraków to lay the groundwork for organizing the next EAAP workshop for Central and Eastern Europe. They toured the facilities, discussed the formation of the scientific committee, talked about dates, and addressed all the practical necessities for organizing an excellent workshop. The goal of this workshop for EAAP is to offer more localized animal science conferences in addition to the annual European conference. The conference, which will be held in Kraków from April 9 to 11, 2025, will cover topics related to animal sciences with a particular focus on issues specific to the Central and Eastern European region.

Highlights from the Mountain Livestock Farming Systems Meeting 2024 https://eaap.org/highlights-from-the-mountain-livestock-farming-systems-meeting-2024/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 08:25:03 +0000 https://eaap.org/?p=7536 The Mountain Livestock Farming Systems Meeting has concluded. Co-organized by EAAP, VetAgro Sup, and INRAE, the event took place in Clermont-Ferrand, the capital of Auvergne, from June 5th to 7th, 2024. The overarching theme of the congress was the adaptation of mountain livestock farming to climate change. Various sessions were organized to explore interactions between farming systems and wildlife, product quality in
mountain farming, and other related topics. Throughout the conference, specialists in livestock farming systems networked, engaging in discussions both during sessions and informally, such as during social events and technical tours. EAAP committed to continuing support for this workshop and, along with Swiss representatives, extended an invitation to the next Mountain Livestock Farming Systems Meeting scheduled for July 1st to 3rd, 2026, in Switzerland.

Exciting News: 2023 Impact Factor for “animal” Journal https://eaap.org/exciting-news-2023-impact-factor-for-animal-journal/ Wed, 26 Jun 2024 08:17:44 +0000 https://eaap.org/?p=7533 EAAP is very pleased to announce that the 2023 impact factor of our journal “animal” is 4, up from 3.7 in 2022. This places “animal” 4th out of 80
journals in the Agriculture, Dairy & Animal Science category and 8th out of 167 journals in the Veterinary Sciences category. This achievement is the result of the collective efforts of all members of the animal consortium (EAAP, INRAE, and BSAS), the editorial team, and, most importantly, the animal scientists who chose our journal for their publications.
